Spirit of the Bush
Our “Spirit of the Bush” Balladeers’ & Heritage Muster was first held in 2001.
This event originally started as a fund-raiser for Boondooma Homestead, and has since grown to be a successful annual event with attendees from all over Australia. They stay for the full five days of continual entertainment by balladeers & Poets.
It has been such a success, that it is on the Grey Nomad calendar of events. There’s plenty of bush camping for 700-800 vans.
The entertainment begins each day at 7:30 with a Poet’s Breakfast, followed by invited artists and walk-up performers well into the evening. As there is only one stage, the walk ups give only two items at a time and return later, time permitting.
A walk-up Balladeers & Poets competition is held on the front veranda of the old Homestead, and is well supported by the visitors. This is judged and prizes awarded. There are various stalls and working displays
An Anzac service is held on Anzac day during the festival and a Church service on Sunday, for those wishing to attend.
Volunteers prepare and cook a variety of foods which are available for sale all day. We also operate a bar for a faithful few. We are always looking for more volunteers. Hope to see you here.
